Transforming the Victoria

Commercialisation

The Victoria today bears little resemblance to the old 1960s’ built mall, known locally as Victoria Plaza. Thanks to a £24 million transformation by Delamere Estates in partnership with the National Grid Pension Fund, The Victoria now offers superb retail and convenience right in the heart of Southend.

Completed in 2008, Delamere worked with world-famous British architects Benoy to revamp every aspect of The Victoria. Today, the fully-pedestrianised centre is covered by a stunning glass roof that floods the mall in natural light. Extensive real modelling of the centre also took place to open up the centre and add escalators, lifts, doorways and facilities. The entire centre features new flooring, lighting and decoration.

In revamping The Victoria, great care was taken to connect the centre to railway and bus hubs at Southend Victoria, as well as provide a brand new car park. The Victoria also includes superb free public lavatories and facilities for babies and toddlers.

Chartwell Square is the heart of The Victoria, home to retail and cafes making it a focal point for events and entertainment which take place at the centre throughout the year.

The retail line-up at The Victoria is impressive, spanning new flagship stores such as Next and New Look to Peacocks, HMV, Wilkinsons, together with a continually growing range of mid-market fashion and multiple brands. Over 2009, The Victoria is set to further welcome new stores.

If you have not visited us for some time, you will be amazed at our transformation.
